I stopped Enbrel due to it giving me almost certain symptoms of MS. 5 months later i am seeing a new a Rheumatologist and he has prescribed Methotrexate for me. How many other people are on this drug?. Also on a positive note i am studying to be a Writer and going back to University Online. :)

I was diagnosed with AS a few months ago after suffering for many years. I have been very reluctant to go on any meds. I did try Sulfasalazine, but it made me lose my appetite. Now my dr wants me to go on Methotrexate and a TNF-blocker like Humira. I am fearful of both these meds, especially of taking 2 new meds together. Anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with these drugs that you could share with me?

Been on Simponi for 4 months and doing very well with no adverse side effects. Rheumy wants to start me on low dose of methotrexate (3 @2.5 mg/week) plus 1mg folid acid. I've read some of the negative side effects of mtx and want to get suggestions on when is the best time to take it - empty or full stomach? Any other tips welcome.

I went to see a new Rheumatologist, he was ready to start me on methotrexate until he saw I have a history of Malignant Melanoma. Is anyone on Methotrexate who also has a history of skin cancer? I am HLA-B27 positive, sacroiliitis, newly diagnosed in December 2011. I am currently on sulfasalazine and Mobic without any improvement...receiving S.I. Injections. They are also testing me for Hashimoto's as he said i have a Goiter.

For those of us who inject methotrexate.......I just saw on the evening news that there is a critical shortage. It is a production issue. I tried to get my vials yesterday and was told they were out. When I asked how long before it would be ready they said it might be a while. Did anybody else see this? Do you think I will need to go back on the pills until the shortage is filled?

Anyone have nausea with methotrexate INJECTION? I've been taking the injections after not being able to tolerate the oral pill for a few years now.. But over the course of the last few months (less then 12 but around sixish) i've been getting nauseous within minutes after administering the injection. It can last a few hours- last one lasted a couple days. Even get a "chemical" taste in the mouth.

Right now they haven't started MTX or TNF's I have a phone appt on Wed, still don't know if I should try MTX or TNF's, which one should I push for?I won't be able to start anything until July 25 when my mother gets back from her Alaskan Cruise, I'm not comfortable nor is she for me to start something without her being here in case there are horrible side effects as I have a dog to take care of (that's going to be hard enough having to walk him).

So I was asking all of you guys about TNF's and after a half an hour phone call with my doc, he's ordered blood work, urine and possibly another MRI of my SI joint since it didn't show it was done and maybe a CT of my neck... He wants to start me off with MTX now instead of jumping to TNF's because there's more risks that come with TNF's, what do you all think? Has MTX worked for you? Did you start with it and then add TNF's?
