Hello, I have been in the disability appeals process for @ four years. I have one last appeal. Any suggestions on getting disability judge to understand how drastically AS symptoms can fluctuate? I was asked several questions about things I am able to do. I explained what I was normally able to do, what I was able to do some of the time and what flare ups prevent. In the denial letter he wrote as if I could do all tasks all of the time even if I said otherwise. Thanks!

Has anyone declared and received disability in the U.S.? I was told by my doctor to apply. I have read that a few people have been denied. I am wondering if it is worth it.

Has anyone here gone from working full-time with some form of Spondylitis to Short-term Disability to Long-term Disability to Social Security Disability? I have lots of questions about the process and how people survive financially throughout (among other things). Who can people consult about navigating this process? What kind of expertise is helpful for this?

Who has trouble driving. Shortly after My back and Neck started fusing. I have no rotation in my back and my neck is fairly limited. I can not go any farther then maybe 2-4 miles round trip before my neck starts locking up. I often hold on to the handles when riding just to support myself in turns?

I really want to apply for SSD but was wondering which is the best route. Should I have my rheumy put me on short term disabilit first or quit my job, wait a month then apply? Diagnosed w/AS about a year ago (B27+), 4 herniated discs w/nerve impingements in my c-spine, erosion on both sides of my sacrum, L4/L5 is bone on bone, &need a shoulder replacement. What I'm worried about is I don't have fusion yet and according to the SSD guidelines you have to have fusion to qualify for benefits.

I had a disability hearing this week and was very surprised how well it went. The social security department's occupational witness actually told the judge that I couldn't work! My rep from Allsup said that she had never seen that happen before. So those of you that are trying, be very through with your application. Don't leave any small detail out. Be truthful. You realize that you have to be your best advocate?

Long term AS sufferer with recent Dx. New to Treatments. My symptoms were no longer bearable and were interfering with my ability to do everyday things especially sitting in front of a computer. (Cervical Radiculopathy - 2 of 3 steroid inj done.) I can directly correlate stressful events with some of my worst flares. I push myself and worked full time but went on Short Term Disability in Feb. I feel better but am afraid to return to work at a stressful job. Very confused on what to do?
