Ok so has any one had problems with their ears, jaw, and rash=scaling/blisters on palms of hands, lower leg, bottom of feet, behind ear, tip of finger? If so could you tell me about what is going on? My GP seems to think its a reaction to simponi, my rhumy said it could be serious, its been almost a year of onset and have been off simponi for 2mo now, and no changes. Been tested for Syphilis and its not that, freaked me out when I saw it on the blood draw order. All other test came out normal.
Could you possibly have Psoriatic Arthritis instead of AS? The arthritic symptoms can be hard to distinguish. God, I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm sorry for all of you. Do you want to post a snapshot of the rash, and we can start looking through the dermatology journals?
I am on Humira. I have stiffness in my jaw (among a hundred other joints) I get scaley behind my ears, in my ears, in my eyebrows and along my hair line. Ive noticed it now seeming to creep down my neck. The only thing that helps it for me is to wash with the dark blue bottle of head and shoulders shampoo. Not just my hair, but wash all over with it. My Rheumy told me its psoriasis and that it goes along with my undifferenciated spondylitis, ankloysing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis. I was on simponi for a couple months about a year ago but it did nothing for me and I know my scaleyness is not from that drug as I had it before hand. I agree with Dennis that the treatments scare me, but I have no option but to take them. If I didnt, I would not be able to walk or function at all. I have learned that this disease is FULL of weirdness that sometimes the doctors can not explain either. I have dizziness now when I lay down or sit up but only if laying on my right side. Sometimes my heel gets so bad I can not walk at all without crutches which end up hurting my shoulders and back. Seems to be a swirling pit of one thing after another. I hope you can find some relief.
Weird symptoms, Mary, and completely consistent with an AS pattern of presenting with a litany of weird symptoms. I don't know what a medical practitioner would say about them, and I can't say with any certainty that they are related to AS, but I'm walking along the same road with you. I've had the type of arthritis pop up that calls for the draining of fluid from some joints (I hear from my face-to-face support group that that's kinda weird). Also, more in line with your experience, my skin blisters on my forehead and rubs off easily...and I mean super-easily. I was rubbing my forehead as I was reading a news article, a habit I hadn't noticed myself doing before, and after reading the article I found that my fingers were covered in blood. It was a fascinating news article...but not THAT fascinating LOL. I wish I could tell you what's going on...but I can't. But I hope you'll feel a little better knowing that someone else is out her wondering "what the heck is this all about?" Wishing you the best - Dennis L. Lisby
