Have any of you ladies had preecclampsia with your pregnancies and or men and women have high blood pressure in general? I had preecclampsia with both my pregnancies now and my sister also had it with her baby.

I had preeclampsia with my pregnancy as well. That being said, I also have a blood clotting disorder, Factor V Leiden, that can cause preeclampsia. I have had two subsequent blood clots and one resulted in multiple pulmonary embolisms, all lobes of my lungs were "showered" with clots. I take coumadin for life now... Another fun drug to be on. I spend so much money at the doctor's offices for monthly blood checks PLUS all the spondy stuff, I'm going broke! So in answer to your question, yes, but who knows what the preeclampsia was caused by!

I've had 4 children and not suffered from pre-eclampsia. I hope your BP stays within the normal limits though x

Thanks for the answers....hypertension runs bad on my dads side of the family and there are a lot of spondylitis and scoliosis related problems too.  Im not for sure if I have AS because tested negative for the gene.  However I have most of the symptoms of AS.  So im still going to specialists to try to find out what autoimmune disorder I have.  I noticed mine fluctuates a lot throughout the day.  Before it went totally out of control it would be good one time of day and bad another.  I think ive actually had hypertension problems for years and didnt know it since I never went to a doctor or had it taken at home.  I noticed when I was in the hospital a few times in the last month and doctors offices they would take it manually when the machine was reading it high and it would show a lower reading.  But I think the machines are actually more accurate than the manual.  I have a arm machine a Walgreens brand one and it does seem to work pretty well.  When my bp was up there I would go and have my mom and sister take theirs and they would get a normal reading.  It also depends on the size of the cuff too because if its too big or small for your arm the reading will be off a lot too.  I bought one of those machines though from Walgreens and im glad I did.  I was very sick at the beginning of this pregnancy also and caught when my bp started going up after I was 2 months pregnant.  It was a very good 40 dollar investment.  I havent heard of the Brewer diet yet.  Now im curious and going to google that lol

I haven't heard that preeclampsia is an issue with women with AS. I had 8 full-term pregnancies and primary hypertension with half and never developed preeclampsia. I read a lot about the Brewer diet as a preventative for it, but don't have personal  experience.

While on Vioxx I eventually after 5 years had my blood pressure skyrocket. Like an idiot I stopped taking BP medicine since I needed a Dr's approval for a refill and I had an appt. A week later. Fortunately it turned out that my BP problem was gone. 6 years later and my BP is normal if read manually, but is way high when taken with an automatic reader. Hematologists office keeps sending me to my GP to get medicated and he says I don't need it because he reads it manually. Thought maybe GP was wrong until I had a rheumatologist appt. Followed by a hemo. Rheumat said 130/80, hemo said 154/94. If you get a bad reading of a machine always ask for a manual reading.
