Anyone got cancer after taking humira or any other TNF for a long period of time? I'm just so worried about their side effects. If all the pills don't work for me I won't have any other option since my AS is very disabling.

My wife took Humira for 2 years and now is fighting for her life with pancreatic-biliary cancer. She was active, didn't smoke, drank very little and took many supplements.

Yes after about 2 years on Humira I had precancer melanoma so my rheumatologist insisted I stop Humira, but I am in so much pain right now I am considering starting it again and monitoring myself very closely for cancer. Not really sure what to do right now, because if the melanoma was linked to Humira - it would likely recur if I go back on the drugs ???? I was lucky I caught it early the first time.  Has anyone else been in this position/had any medical advice on this ? Nothing else helps with the pain and I am finding it hard to even breathe at night.

It is a big choice, but one only you can make, all I can say is I was on Enbrel for a few years and it made a huge difference to my quality of life. I have been off it for around a year sue to other health issues which resulted in majory surgery, but I an  back to see my doc in 2 weeks and hope to get back on it.

All you can do is weigh up all the pros and cons and make the decision that is right for you. Good luck

So far, no cancer, and I've been on TNF (Humira) for 16 months.  A friend from church has been on TNF (Enbrel) for 6 years, and she has not had cancer or side effects.  For me, the choice to take TNF's is easy--without them, the pain is so bad that a shorter life would be a blessing.  So for me, the benefit outweighs the risk.  But you should follow your own feelings and thoughts, and you don't have to agree with me.  Fingers crossed for you that you'll luck out and not have to make this choice.

I injected Humaria for 2 years for RA, about 1.5 years later by Gods grace a cancer lesion was found growing in my Lft Kidney, Im 1 week post op after having my left Kidney removed, and Ive lived a clean life, so nothing in my background set me up for this, I know it was the Humaria, yea RA pain sucks, but risking your future and getting cancer arent the answer. BEWARE!

My 48 year old husband had Crohn's and was on Remicade for approximately 6 months then went on Humira in June 2009.  In October 2009 his dosage was doubled in October 2009.  In February he was admitted to the hospital with chest pains.  During the cardiac work up the physicians saw a 10cm lesion on his liver.  By the end of the week he had a diagnosis of stage IV colon cancer and four months later he was dead.  I wouldn't let me worst enemy take any of these horrible, toxic drugs.

We are trying to make this decision as well...my husband is a luekemia survivor...he had from age 3-8 and in remission still....His Soriatic Arthritis is so bad...right now he is taking Methotrexate.  However, he took this when he had Luekemia as well.  The Methotrexate seemed to be working for a short time.  However, his arthritis is worse along with his psoriasis.  Humira is the next step.  I am against it...yet, I'm not in his shoes either with the pain.  What made you decide NOT to take Humira, being a cancer survivor.  I have been trying to find the odds of re occurance.  It's such a scary thing.  I don't like seeing him in pain though...days where he can't even get out of bed.  Karine have you made a decision yet?

My Rheumy just started me on a immuno-suppresant this week. I am on Imuran. I have heard wonderful things but like you have a fear of the side effects. I had to come to the decision that I would rather have a wonderful ten years than a lifetime of living the way I am. I wish you all the luck and will keep you informed on any side effects I may experience.

I have just had to make the choice and am going on Humira in 2 weeks . It scares me but I have no real options left . Have tried natural and all the regular drugs and am at the point now if Ido not try it I will not have any  kind of life .It is a big thing to decide on and you will have to decide what you want .It is hard but for me I think the benifits outway the risk .I

As a Cancer survivor I decided to opt out and not take TNF's.  Just too big a risk for me and I didn't want to take a chance with recurrence.
