Menopause seems to make everything worse. If you got your hysterectomy during menopause, that may account for it. A lot of these auto-immune things are hormone driven.
I had a hyst before I was Dx'ed but probably at the beginning of a serious flare cycle that led to my Dx. I can't say that the hyst made a difference. Probably a lot of the symptoms I had that led to the hyst - like severe lower back pain - were associated with the AS flare more than the rapidly growing fibroids.
That said, getting stabilized on eHRT seems to be a factor in treating my AS. It certainly helps to not have hormonal hot flashes when dealing with AS night sweats, too. And the lack of all those hormonal fluctuations are just one less reason for my body to suddenly go out of whack and decide to flare up.

I can't say that it made any change in the AS but it did take take away the terrible pain in my abdomen and some of my bowel issues since the endometriosis was taken care of. I have one less thing to complain about now!
I am currently 37. At the age of 26, I underwent an emergency hysterectomy, due to severe endometriosis. I suffered for many years with endo-related pain. I was diagnosed 11 years ago with AS. I can say from my own personal experience that the AS pain was not relieved by my hysterectomy. Of course, I do feel better in the sense that I no longer battle the endo, but to say the hysterectomy actually lessened the AS pain...not possible! This may vary from female to female, but in my case I still fight chronic pain on a daily basis due to the AS. Best wishes to you!! =)
