I've been trying to find a decent example of a low-starch diet for athletes, but have had absolutely no luck. All I'm looking for is some direction -- best things to eat, how much to eat, etc. Any tips?

The funny thing is that the things that are low in starch I crave more than the things that are high in starch. I love steak, chicken breast, fish, fruits & vegetables, nuts, and milk. That is most of my diet already. I don't eat a lot of bread or cereals. I do love pasta too though so that sucks. Awesome how if your in tune with your body it will tell you what it needs.

I think that reducing starches is always good advice for Americans - and so is reducing sugar, fats, etc. Americans eat too much junk, period. But as to the 'low starch diet' for AS - show me the hard science, and I'll be its biggest devotee. Any actual scientific tests that have been done on how this diet affects AS patients shows that it does nothing. On the positive side, people tend to lose weight. Shocking.
Eating healthy is always good advice - smaller portions, a little more frequent eating, low fats, low sugars, and no stuffing whole loaves of bread into our mouths at every meal. That seems like good advice.
Oh, and we all need to get off our rears and exercise - one of the best things that AS sufferers can do.

The famous book on this subject is written by Carol Sinclair, "The IBS Low-Starch Diet: Why
Starchy Food May Be Hazardous to Your Health" (9780091912864).
Sinclair created this diet for people with IBS, although she found that her A.S. Symptoms nearly disappeared as a side benefit.
I followed this diet religiously for 4 months and lost around 25 pounds during this period (not my primary goal, but I'm not complaining either!). But, as far as reducing my A.S. Symptoms..... I got absolutely NO BENEFIT from this diet. Of course as investment professionals say, past performance is no guarantee of future results!
Good luck if you chose to give this a try. It didn't work for me (referring to AS symptoms), but you will probably shed a few pounds!

Go to www.kickas.org and there is a forum just for a diet or eating guide like this.
