Anyone have tips on dealing with constant fatigue and exhaustion? Are there medications that can help?

Sometimes I give myself permission to feel bad. Then in a day or two, I'm reenergized and go on from there!  Giving myself a break, gives me less stress mentally.

There are medications that HURT the fatigue situation. I haven't found any that help.

Just sleep combined with exercise - particularly outside and in the fresh air and sunlight - helps. Heck, one of my favorite activities is to wrap myself in a blanket, lay down on a chaise lounge chair, and warm up in the sun. So toasty on the achy joints yet also absorbing that much needed vitamin D.

Warm water - I go water walking at the YMCA.  Swimming is good too.

I'm currently taking Vitamin D but my doc also says 15 minutes of sun (I'm extremely fair).

I feel for you - it's a terrible situation!

Short walks, stretching, hot Epsom salt baths prayer and mediation and lots of supplements, Vitamin D3 has worked really well for me and healthy eating. Taking one hour at a time.

Exercise for sure - but dang, it sure is hard when you feel so tired. I LOVE the warming in the sun idea! I like to be outside in the sun b/c it does seem to boost my energy - even when I feel really badly. As far as a med? Haven't foudn anything to help w/ that! I think the key is to do your best to manage your pain - whether thru anti inflammatories, muscle relaxers, narcotics and/or the other meds (like dmards or anti-tnfs). If you can manage your pain - FOR ME, the energy comes next. When i'm feeling better, I move more and that helps me to feel better overall. Lying around all the time b/c I'm too tired to do anything - that just makes my pain a LOT worse.

Moving / exercise, any helps.  I try to walk and get to a pool as often as I can.  Also hit the jacuzzi.  That warm water really feels good.

Amytriptyline in low doses acts as muscle relaxant taken at night (I know its an anti depressant) and has been used in AS patients and has shown to reduce fatigue by 23%. Just actually getting restful sleep is likely to be why. Recently I have been using melatonin which you can buy over the counter. It really makes me sleep well/thru the night, without being an addictive or harmful drug, and my level of fatigue has definitely lessoned.

How are your iron levels? My iron was off the chart. I tried OTC iron supplements with no success. The doctor prescribed prenatal strength iron (130mg p/day) and it has helped greatly with fatigue. Exercise and staying hydrated are good also. I have occasional days where I need a mid-day nap, but those are far and few between anymore.

I found that when I started Humira, my fatigue went away.  I noticed that before I noticed the pain going away.  I felt 20 younger.
