My daughter 35, was just recently diagnosed with having the A.S. Gene. Included with her symptoms are sores all over her body that break open and bleed, and then in a day or so she wants to scratch her skin off. Is this common?
Im a female 28 dx with psoratic arthritis and spondylitis..i itch ALOT ...she could have both like me..
I agree with Stephen. It is not common and sounds like psoriasis. I would definitely check with the Dr. Janet noted that she has developed slight sun-sensitivity. I wonder- could this be a result of meds that you are taking. My son reacts to the sun a lot now that he is on MTX. He is very good about using sun blocks, but definitely has to be very careful with sun exposure.
Actually, I just had this last week and am still recovering. It can be part of AS or if she has another autoimmune disease - they usually go hand in hand.
I have Crohn's, Hashimoto's, Osteoarthritis, AS, and a few others....
Like the others mentioned, since she has the HLA-B27 gene, psoriatic arthritis is a big possiblity.

I agree with Stephen, this sounds like psoriasis. Psoriasis is one of a cluster of diseases associated with that genetic marker. My father had mild psoriasis, and one of my daughters has had severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, so I wasn't all that surprised when that marker was identified in me as the cause of my hip pain, even though my skin is fine. Fortunately, many of the drugs used to treat AS are also effective for psoriasis. Make sure your rheumy knows about the rashes, and that your dermatologist (you need one, if you don't have one already!) knows about the AS.
No, this is not common. This sounds like psoriasis (or psoriatic arthirits) or excema. She should see a doctor.
Just because she has the HLA-B27 gene (I assume this is the gene you are asking about) does not mean she will have Ankylosing Spondylitis. Most people with the gene do not have AS; however, most people with AS have the gene. Nevertheless, if she has symptoms of AS like low-back pain in addition to the HLA-B27 gene she will likely be diagnosed with AS. This is usually confirmed with a positive response to AS treatment, i.e. Does she get better with treatment? Has she been diagnosed with AS?

It could be psoriasis or reactive arthritis. I have the same issue. I would especially get it if my allergies or stress levels are up. I tried TEA TREE OIL from walmart. Using it thoughout the day to clean the skin. I beleive we carry staph in our bodies.... The Tea Tree oil SMELLS pretty bad but can be deluted, it has REALLY HELPED. It dries out the sore and does not let it create the itchy scab that never seems to heal. Does your family have a histroy of hte Rh- factor? I use to get folliculitis on occation and I have had tinea versicolor for as long as I could remember. Because it is a autoimmune disease the immune system of other organs like your skin doesn't fight as well as they should.
My AS is accompanied by a non- itchy slightly raised red rash- much like a malar rash and is usually on my face. Could it be an allergic reaction? Possibly to medication? I don't think an autoimmune rash should be painful or itchy- but like they say- there are so many different side effects and people react differently with this disease- it could very well be a symptom, but I would rule out everything else first.
