After my remicade treatment yesterday I had my hips re-xrayed since last April. My right hip is shot and my left is almost as bad. My rheumy made me an appt with the Orthopedic Surgeon for a hip replacement consult. Has anyone had the surgery and if so what is the rehab time and did continuing on remicade or other biologic help?
Sorry to hear about your hips....I was on a biologic for several years and I ended up getting my left hip replaced and the recovery time was 5 days in the hospital and about two weeks after in alot of pain but it was so worth it and I haven't had any any issues with my hips since.Unfortunately I still take a biologic because of my neck and ribs.Good luck and I hope everything works out for you!!!!
I had a hip replacement done 16 or 17 years ago. That was before tnf drugs. Everyone is different in recovery time. One thing they did was the day after the replacement they did a radiation therapy on the hip to reduce the possibility of calcification of the artificial joint. I don't know if that is still a therapeutic procedure. They also didn't do both hips at the same time in those days. The surgery is pretty major and doing both would be too traumatic for an easy recovery.
I was 38 when I had my total hip replaced - 4 years ago. I was in hospital for only 2-days! They had me on my feet the next morning. Recovery was 6 weeks, travelled for work at about week 8. Havent had any trouble with hip, except I squeek when I bend at the hip! I did not have AS diagnosis yet. Good Luck!!
Have you ever been treated with steroids? To my knowledge Hip joint problem is a complication of long term steroids.
I have had both hips replaced but before tnf drugs were out 1988 & 1991 it was a two week stay in hospital I belive it only a week now my hips are still going strong no trouble at all I think you may have to come off it for a day or two but you will be drugs they give you will keep you happy in that time you will soon be running a round I know it a worry now but think no pain in the hips for you all the best & good luck not as you will need it.
