Hi there, has anyone any help for sleeping through the night? I haven't had more than about 3 hours straight for over three months now. The pain is too much to lie in bed so it's either broken painful sleep from then on, or i just have to get out of bed. I'm 35 and have only been having severe pain for 6 months. Not diagnosed as yet, but my brother has AS, i'm RLA B27+ and the symptoms seem to line up. I'm meeting my rheumy next week to arrange MRI. Lack of sleep and pain are my problems.

I was prescribed trazedone to try and help me sleep. I have the same issues. I usually stay up for an entire night with no sleep because of the pain, the following day I am so tired that I drift off to sleep throughout the day in and out, wake restlessly through the night, and up again the following night. Never ending pattern of disruptive sleep. I was dx with AS, but nothing has been show on my MRIs so they refuse to really treat me with much. I am on meloxicam for stiffness and inflammation with little to no relief, tramadol 3xday (100mg), valume 5mg take 1-2 2-3x a day, and trazedone for bedtime. Good luck hun. My rheumy is not the greatest and has refused to help because no fusion is present, but they are the only ones in my area. Be a strong advocate for yourself.
I started amitriptyline at night and have found they help, but also you must look at your bed. Make sure you have the most comfortable, for you, mattress. You could also try using pillows, when lying on your side, one between your ankles, one between your knees. Then roll forward and tuck one into your back and roll back on it, this is how the place you in hospital to keep your skeleton aligned. I often have at my chest too , so i can sort of cuddle it, but is sort of holds you softly, in place and can help, certainly worth a try. Good luck
You could be having a flare up, I do have problems sleeping every night I wake up from pain. I hope you have a good rhuemy, my is a life saver, doesn't take all the pain away but I get more sleep. If you have it, it is one of the most weirdest things you'll ever come acrossed. Good luck love
Hi Gem, Try sleeping in a recliner - sometimes when I cant physically lay in bed anymore cause it hurts too much, I go to couch recliner with a heating pad on my back. Good Luck!
Temazapam. It changed the entire quality of my life to be able to sleep through the night.

Hi, When I was diagnosed with AS I was sleeping 1-2hrs a night, and could barely walk, so I understand your pain(literally). Since being diganosed I take 1 anti-inflammation pill and thats it. The best thing you can do is hydrotherapy. I read online everyone with AS in usa/canada taking so many pills&drugs its crazy. The best thing for AS is hydrotherapy(movement in water) but Im told my physio/swim teacher USA doesnt have anything like this only UK, Europe & australia, So maybe join the oldies and do yoga or pilates in water. Or just go swimming.
I also have a hard time sleeping - 20 minutes on one side and something goes numb or hurts and I have to move. In September they gave me Amitriptyline (50mg) and I slept for a month and a half and do not remember much, but was still very very depressed... So I stopped, then it was mentioned that I could cut them - and now because I also do not get alot of help even with my dx of AS, I cut these things in half. I sleep ok and longer than 3 hrs (except tonight - LOL - because I have other things on my mind) I actually think I like this amitriptyline for sleep, the ambien and muscle relaxers don't work... And this does not knock me out (even though I wish it did)
