I am about to start on Humira. For those who have had success with the drug, how soon did you start to see improvements?

I know it sounds impossible but I felt better the day after my first shot.  Before I started it my hips were hurting bad enough for me to dread walking a few feet.  My back would hurt so bad during the night that I would sleep in short spurts.  The day after I had my first shot my hips and back felt tons better.  I am not saying I was pain free but I was far better than before the shot.  Maybe it was more mental than anything but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for asking this question Lauren. I have AS in my upper cervical spine. My neck is bending over further and further. I have pains in my shoulders and arms as well. Last night I was falling asleep in a chair while watching TV and every time I would doze off, my head would fall forward just a little, but that was enough to cause bad enough pain to wake me up. Then when I tried to go to sleep in bed, I couldn't get comfortable no matter what. My arms and shoulders were killing me. My neck was killing me. Bad night. My Rheumy suggested Enbrel for me, and my PCP told me to look up some information on it on the NIH website. There is so much information it is quite overwhelming, AND I'm scared to death of taking some new drug as well. It's good to hear that people are having good results and experiences from the meds. Kinda eases my fears a little. I don't take anything now except for Vicodin for pain. And yes I know that's a dangerous drug too. Thanks guys for these discussions.

It took about a month for me.  It gave me back about 50% of my mobility, so I'm happy!

I don't remember exactly how fast, but pretty fast.  I'm able to dress myself, and cook simple meals, and enjoy hanging out with my husband and cat.  Before Humira I thought I was well on my way to a nursing home at the age of 42.  No drug is 100%, but I definitely appreciate what Humira lets me do.

When I was on Humira it took about 2 months to really kick in and I felt great. Sadly I had many side effects so I am switching to Enbrel and keeping my fingers crossed.

I know a lot of folks who are on Humira and do very well very quickly. I, myself, had an allergic reaction to it....which only consisted of red spots all over that looked like tiny blood blisters under the skin.  So no more Humira for me, I was on Remicaid and Methotrexate until yesterday afternoon. No success after 8 remi treatments so we are waiting one month to clear out those medication from my system and we will being a new treatment. The breakout did not hurt or itch but I wanted to repond in case you developed some spots and wandered what it was all about. Hope it helps a little. :-)

For me it was within a few days, however it takes up to a month before it is fully in your system as far as I understand, Ebrel takes longer to get in and to get out.

I switched from enbrel to humira so the benefits were immediate. Enbrel had taken a month so I would expect that for me humors would have ben similar.  Based on what I've read I would figure an average of 3 months. If it's less then be happy and if it's as much as 6 months don't be surprised.
